Approximately 360 feet from our RV park are the historic railway tracks of Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. When it reached Wichita in 1872, the railroad only ran 62 miles. By 1945 however, the total length of the tracks stretched 13,115 miles.

After Wichita became an incorporated city in 1870, it gained the nickname “Cowtown” for the constant cattle drives through the city from Texas.
With new train tracks and locomotive technology, Wichita excelled in the shipping of cattle and grain.
Today, the tracks are used by the Kansas Oklahoma (KO) Railroad to transport grain and other products between Kansas and Colorado. Guests may hear the train horn for approximately 15 seconds as they cross East 31st street. The short horn bursts may just remind you of where Wichita began and just how far it has come.
