K&R RV Park

Know where to go before a storm develops. Your safety is our top priority โ€” please review this plan and save it before you need it.

RVs Are Not Safe Shelter During Tornadoes

In the event of a tornado warning, you must leave your RV immediately and move to the designated storm shelter. Do not wait for the tornado to be visible โ€” act at the first warning.

โšก When to Evacuate Your RV

  • A tornado WARNING is issued for Sedgwick County or the Wichita area
  • You receive an emergency alert on your phone (WEA) indicating a tornado in the area
  • Park management or staff directs you to take shelter
  • Tornado sirens are activated (tested every Monday at noon โ€” all other activations are real)
  • A funnel cloud or tornado is spotted nearby โ€” do not wait for official confirmation

Park Office Basement โ€” On-Site Storm Shelter

The K&R RV Park office basement serves as the designated storm shelter for all guests. The basement is the safest location on the property during severe weather. Go there immediately when a warning is issued.

Basement Access

If park staff is not on-site during severe weather, the door code will be sent by text to guests with a mobile number on file. If you cannot reach the shelter, call the park immediately at (316) 684-1531.

Important Reminders

Know Your Shelter Now

Locate the office building and basement entrance on your first day. In a real emergency you won’t have time to search โ€” knowing the route in advance could save your life.

Monday Noon Siren Test

Sedgwick County tests tornado sirens every Monday at noon. If sirens sound at any other time โ€” or during overcast or stormy weather โ€” treat it as a real event and take shelter immediately.

Watch vs. Warning

A Watch means conditions are favorable โ€” stay alert. A Warning means a tornado has been detected or spotted โ€” move to shelter now.

Contact the Park

If directed by staff to evacuate, do so immediately. Need the door code or assistance? Call (316) 684-1531 right away.
